Mark Clattenburg has now revealed one thing he noticed before a Nottingham Forest match recently which “raises an issue” for him.

The 49-year-old made the comments when speaking to Jamie Martin on YouTube.

So, what did Mark Clattenburg see before a recent Nottingham Forest game? Let’s take a look…

What Mark Clattenburg noticed before a Nottingham Forest match

Well, the man from Consett was hired as a Referee Analyst by Nottingham Forest back in February after a series of woeful decisions went against Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side.

Clattenburg’s role is not to teach Nuno’s squad how to be more savvy and street smart towards officials, but it is more of a consultancy role.

The former Premier League referee will be available to anybody at the City Ground for advice, and also acts as a connection between the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) and Nottingham Forest, if there are any further problems between now and the end of the season.

However, Clattenburg also appears to be doing his own homework on officials overseeing Nottingham Forest matches, as he noticed a very inexperienced appointment before a recent Premier League match.

Nottingham Forest’s Referee Analyst said: “For example, we had a VAR (official) a few games ago where he hadn’t been on VAR in the Premier League before, so that raises an issue to me – that he is very inexperienced.”

Experience is not the problem

Nobody wants to be the unlucky club to have a new official overseeing one of their games.

Crystal Palace and Luton Town recently found that out the hard way when Sunny Singh Gill endured a woeful Premier League debut in the recent 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park, a match in which he also bizarrely signed a few autographs at the interval.

Nevertheless, everybody has to start somewhere.

The problem is that these officials – no matter how experienced or inexperienced they are – do not seem to be trained well enough to handle the pressurised environment that is the Premier League, and this simply has to change.
