Chris Sutton slams ‘ridiculous’ Premier League after Nottingham Forest FFP update

Chris Sutton has taken a pop at the Premier League after Nottingham Forest chose to appeal their four-point deduction for breaching financial fair play regulations.

Of course, Forest have broken the rules and deserve to be punished for their actions as a football club. However, the Premier League do have some questions to answer.

Some news has come to light that makes a mockery of a league that many consider to be the best in the world. Andros Townsend has slammed the Forest situation earlier today – with Everton also facing another charge.

Chris Sutton can’t believe something he’s heard the Premier League might do to Forest and Everton

It’s very rare that Sutton has anything positive to say about Forest. However, in this instance, he’s taken aim at the Premier League instead over their way of handling these charges.

Forest now have until April 12th to submit their appeal claims to an independent panel. Then, it’s anyone’s guess as to when the Reds will receive their outcome.

That simply won’t do and this could actually go down as the most turbulent Premier League campaign ever. It’s going to be dominated by points deductions it would seem and Sutton isn’t happy.

He told The Monday Night Club: “It’s ridiculous, isn’t it? How can teams finish the season and think they’ve stayed up but they haven’t? It just can’t happen. This needs wrapping up and wrapping up quickly.”

In our view, Sutton has a point and the whole thing is ridiculous now. Alex Crook thinks Forest have taken a risky approach and now the waiting game begins once again.

Forest must now focus on football

Ultimately, even with a four-point deduction, all is not lost for Forest. They sit just a point below Luton in the Premier League and there are still nine games left to play.

Forest have some very winnable games coming up and they have a better run-in than the Hatters who still have to go to Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City in the coming weeks.

Forest have to get back on track on the pitch and park the interference concerning boardroom matters. The Reds should have been out of sight before Luton scored a late equaliser last time out and it’s time for the players to take responsibility.

Sutton is right though. How the Premier League have handled these cases involved FFP charges has been nothing short of farcical and things need to change in that sense.
