Nottingham Forest were deducted four points earlier in the season for breaching financial fair play charges. It plunged the Reds deep into relegation trouble – although they did wipe out their point deficit within two games.
The Reds admitted to some charges involving high spending and the independent committee did take some mitigating factors into consideration. Ultimately though, it’s ensured that Forest are still embroiled in a relegation battle.
Yesterday, Everton were thrown into more chaos. Having already been deducted 10 points this season – and getting four back on appeal – the Toffees have now been deducted two further points for failing to comply for the second time.
Forest have to keep plugging away in their attempts to get enough points to remain in the Premier League this season. Luton don’t appear to be going away and the two games against Wolves at the City Ground and Everton look huge for the Reds.
After the latest news involving the points deduction for Everton, some sympathy has been afforded to both the Toffees and Forest from a pretty unlikely source. Let’s take a closer look…

John Aldridge expresses sympathy to Everton and Nottingham Forest
Well, well, well, this is a bit of a turn-up for the books. Aldridge is far from popular among the Forest fan base. In the rearranged FA Cup semi-final of 1989, the former Liverpool striker rubbed the head of Reds defender Brian Laws after he had put through his own net.
It was an unsavoury incident and left a particularly sour taste given how Forest reacted in the wake of the awful Hillsborough disaster that marred that particular semi-final.
Still, Aldridge does believe that Forest have a right to be annoyed with the FFP situation. He’s taken to X to discuss the latest charge for Everton and he’s namechecked Forest in his post too. He said:

When Everton first got points deducted this season, they used it as a siege mentality. They went on a remarkable run and in fairness to Forest, the four points from two home games last weekend were just the tonic.
It’s a shame that Crystal Palace couldn’t be put to the sword as those two points might have proved massive to the Reds. However, four points wasn’t a bad return from games with the Eagles and Fulham.
Forest played Tottenham on Sunday night and once again they had a good go. Chris Wood equalised after Murillo’s own goal and then proceeded to miss one that he really should have scored to put Forest ahead.
Ultimately, Forest have to park this FFP nonsense now. The Reds have just six games left to save their season and they really need to start winning football matches between now and the end of the campaign.
