Ola Aina recently hit the headlines at Nottingham Forest following a 2-0 defeat against Manchester City, after embarrassing Kyle Walker.

The England international, widely regarded as one of the quickest – if not the quickest – footballer in Europe, was recently shown up by the Nigeria international at the City Ground in a footrace down the left flank.

Even the Premier League’s official social media accounts made a point of posting the moment – with an emoji portraying a face of shock.

Now – in an interview with the Guardian – Nottingham Forest No.43 Ola Aina has shared what Kyle Walker said to him after sprinting past the Manchester City No.2 with apparent ease…

What Kyle Walker said to Ola Aina

Speaking to the Guardian, the 27-year-old said: “I remember when it happened I saw him and thought, I might as well just try it – and I put everything into it.

“Afterwards he said something like ‘you’re pretty quick’ and ‘you caught me flat footed’ but he was very chilled about it. He’s done the same thing to other players so many times.”

It was pure evidence that Nuno Espirito Santo has a real speed demon on his hands at Nottingham Forest.

Aina – who also made a bizarre admission about Mark Clattenburg when speaking to the Guardian – has enjoyed an impressive 2023/24 campaign since arriving on a free transfer from Torino back in July.

The man from Southwark has made 21 appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring one goal while also providing one assist – with Kelvin Wilson recently revealing that he thinks the Nigeria international has been a quality signing.

Nottingham Forest targeting new contract

Aina only signed a one-year deal back in July, so he would leave the City Ground as a free agent unless Nottingham Forest offer him an extension.

According to the Telegraph, the Garibaldi plan to do exactly that, and will trigger an option to extend his deal by a further 12 months following his consistently impressive performances this season.

Nottingham Forest’s scattergun approach to recruitment after winning the Championship play-off final in May 2022 was a bit odd, with the signings of Jonjo Shelvey and Andre Ayew particularly strange and downright unnecessary.

However, landing Aina on a free transfer was fantastic business, as was the £3m signing of Callum Hudson-Odoi, a player who Gary Lineker thinks has improved drastically under Nuno Espirito Santo.
