What Nuno Espirito Santo has bizarrely got his Nottingham Forest goalkeepers doing in training

Nuno Espirito Santo is leaving no stone unturned this summer as he looks to get Forest moving higher up the Premier League table.

The Reds head coach needs to ensure that a relegation battle isn’t on the cards again this season after narrowly staying up last season.

Espirito Santo joined Forest in December following the sacking of Steve Cooper and helped the Reds remain as a top-flight club.

There were some good moments under the Portuguese boss last season and the hope will be that more can be had during the 2024/25 campaign.

Forest have swapped the City Ground for the sunshine of Spain in pre-season and it’s been a useful camp for the players ahead of the new season.

What Nuno Espirito Santo has got his goalkeepers doing in training

This is quite intriguing and offers a bit of an insight into the demands of a modern-day goalkeeper.

Forest had three stoppers – Matz Sels, Carlos Miguel and Matt Turner – all being put through their paces out in Spain.

John Percy of The Telegraph has been explaining what the stoppers have been doing in training – and it’s quite bizarre.

He’s claimed that the club’s goalkeeping coach Rui Barbosa has been making the goalkeepers wear dark glasses during training as it’s designed to improve reaction speed.

It’s something that is unheard of but highlights just how much of a specialist position being a goalkeeper is these days.

It’s hard to imagine a group of goalkeepers wearing dark glasses in training and time will tell whether it makes an impact on the pitch.

Fight for Forest number one looks fierce

Forest have been linked with Aaron Ramsdale in recent weeks, whilst Turner could likely leave the club before the transfer window closes.

However, that one does feel like a bit of a stretch and the three in place now look to be the three that will begin the season.

Sels hasn’t done a lot wrong to be dispossessed and perhaps he will remain as the number one with Miguel providing the backup on a matchday.

Hopefully, Forest can get things right in terms of goalkeepers this season.

Forest have had far too many goalkeepers since winning promotion to the Premier League and it’s time that things settled down.

This information from Percy is intriguing and it’s a new one to us that goalkeepers train in dark glasses.

Now, we must wait to see whether or not the goalkeepers return looking improved when the season gets underway.
