Nottingham Forest are trying to crank up their efforts to sign a striker before the Premier League season gets underway.
It’s been a summer that hasn’t seen too many strikers linked with the City Ground but now things look to be heating up.
The Reds have Chris Wood in their ranks and Taiwo Awoniyi as the two striker options available to Nuno Espirito Santo.
Wood was praised by Eddie Howe when he signed for Forest in January 2023 for £15 million and last season he scored 15 goals in all competitions.
However, he turns 33 this season and he won’t be scoring that level of goals for too much longer.
Awoniyi has proved a very good signing since signing from Union Berlin for £18 million shortly after Forest won promotion.
He’s scored 17 goals in 53 appearances in all competitions but quite simply his injury record is a cause for concern.
With those factors under consideration, the Reds have turned their attention to Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord and not there is an update.

Dutch journalist provides update on Forest links to Santiago Gimenez
The 23-year-old has also been looked at by Tottenham this summer but it would appear as though Ange Postecoglou has bigger fish to fry.
Now, a Dutch journalist has done some digging on this possible link between Forest and Gimenez – with some exciting news in store.
Rene Tovar has told Record Mexico: “We were able to contact people close to Gimenez and the answer (about Nottingham Forest’s interest) was the following: yes, it is true that Nottingham Forest want Santi, that’s right, there is a possibility that they may even have a formal, official offer from the English team, however, until last night, there had been no official proposal.”
Striker is required at Forest this summer
Last year, Forest had Divock Origi as a backup option but right now only Awoniyi and Wood can lead the line within the squad.
With that in mind, it feels like a good summer to be bringing in a new striker and Gimenez seems to fit the profile of what Forest are looking for.
Last season he scored 26 goals and although he was playing in the Eredivisie that does highlight a player who knows where the back of the net is.
Gimenez is only 23 and ultimately even if Forest paid a big fee for him, he would still boast a significant amount of potential and resale value for the future.
Forest might have to play the long game with this one but it’s definitely positive news that there is some interest from the club for Gimenez.
