£10m-rated player wanted by Nottingham Forest and Cooper now stripped of shirt number

Nottingham Forest are keen to sign a goalkeeper this summer with a number of names thrown into the mix as possible targets.

One of the names linked with Forest is Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale – although that feels like a long shot.

It’s perhaps surprising that Forest want to land another custodian having already signed Carlos Miguel during the off-season.

Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner is subject to interest from the Bundesliga and perhaps another goalkeeper is being eyed as cover.

Now, one of the names linked with a move to Forest has perhaps been shoved closer to the exit door earlier today.

Forest-linked Sam Johnstone handed Crystal Palace blow

Oliver Glasner was linked with a move to Forest after Steve Cooper was sacked but the club opted for Nuno Espirito Santo instead.

Now, he’s making waves at Palace and he’s now changed his number-one goalkeeper.

Last season, Johnstone began the campaign in possession of the gloves, with Dean Henderson fighting back from a thigh problem.

However, some poor form prompted Glasner to rotate his goalkeepers and now he’s handed the former Forest loanee the number one shirt for the new season, the Daily Mail has confirmed.

Johnstone is 31-years-old and he’s likely to cost Forest in the region of £10 million if the club wishes to sign him from Palace.

Other clubs are keen though with Southampton and Wolves also linked, according to David Ornstein who delivered an update last week.

Johnstone has bags of experience in the Premier League having made 66 appearances in the top-flight for a number of different clubs.

Forest have to offload goalkeeper before signing one

Chelsea currently have nine goalkeepers on their books and Forest aren’t quite at that level just yet.

However, it’s fair to say that if Johnstone – or any other goalkeeper – comes to the club, the Reds need to get one of them out.

Turner looks like the most obvious choice to leave but at 32-years-old perhaps Matz Sels would want to move if he’s not assured of regular football.

Johnstone would be an interesting signing and it’s fair to say that he wouldn’t really fit with the recruitment model of this summer at Forest.

Ramsdale would be a better fit in that sense although signing him could prove more tricky.

If Espirito Santo is keen to sign a new goalkeeper then fair enough. However, Forest must do some work to ensure that they’re not stockpiling stoppers with PSR lurking on the horizon of every Premier League club.
