Nottingham Forest are gearing up for an opening day clash with Bournemouth on Saturday with six new signings having arrived this summer.

One of those new recruits – Marko Stamenic – has already joined Olympiacos on a season-long loan having signed from Red Star Belgrade.

The other players who have arrived should all be capable of making an impact and there may be some debuts this weekend.

It’s the time of the year that pundits are starting to make their predictions over the new campaign.

In a little twist on the conventional questions, some pundits were asked who they thought was the signing of the summer.

Two respected pundits believe that Forest might have hit the jackpot with one of their signings made during the off-season.

Tim Sherwood and Shay Given agree on Nottingham Forest signing

The addition of Elliot Anderson from Newcastle saw Forest and the Magpies complete some financial gymnastics to meet the PSR threshold.

The youngster has been finding his feet in pre-season on Trentside and both Given and Sherwood think Forest have done a great job.

As part of the Premier League’s launch, they were asked who they thought was the signing of the summer.

Both said Forest’s addition of Anderson had caught their eye and that’s interesting out of the whole division.

Now, the young utility man will hope to prove himself at Forest and quickly get in the team under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Anderson can thrive under regular game time at Forest

Having been at a club the size of Newcastle for his entire career, it must have been a bit of a sickener to leave the Magpies this summer.

However, he will get more game time at Forest and he could prove a very useful addition for the Reds.

Anderson was nicknamed the Geordie Maradona at Newcastle for his close control and ability to take players on when in possession of the ball.

The challenge for him at Forest will be to get in the team and hold down a place under Espirito Santo.

Anderson can operate as a central midfielder, out wide on the flank or through the middle as a number 10.

It will be fascinating to see where he slots into things at Forest but it’s definitely interesting that Sherwood and Given fancy him as the signing of the summer.
