Nottingham Forest midfielder Danilo picked up a severe ankle injury yesterday in scenes that nobody wants to see at a football match.
The Brazilian lay stricken on the City Ground turf after landing awkwardly following a foul on Antoine Semenyo in the middle of the pitch.
Forest are now going to have to get by without a little help from Danilo for the foreseeable as he prepares to start his rehabilitation.
As the dust settles on the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, it’s not come to light just how severe Danilo’s injury is – and perhaps there are some reasons to be cheerful.

Journalist delivers update on Forest star Danilo
This appears to be positive news – and Danilo’s injury might not be quite as bad as first anticipated.
The Reds star was stretchered off following nine minutes of treatment on the field and it wasn’t a pleasant sight for the fans to witness.
Now, the very reputable Bruno Andrade has posted on X and it might be positive news regarding the £16 million star.
He posted: “Danilo will undergo ‘minor surgery’ on his left ankle tomorrow. Fortunately, the injury to the Nottingham Forest midfielder, although frightening, is less serious than expected. The former Palmeiras player is expected to recover in 6 to 8 weeks.”
Danilo will come back bigger and stronger for Forest
This is such a shame for the 23-year-old and he’s crying out for a long run in the team to really establish himself.
Danilo was the man chosen to partner with Ibrahim Sangare in the Forest midfield and he had made a positive start to the match.
Forest will now have to do without Danilo for a month or two but this is definitely better than first anticipated.
Had Danilo actually broken his leg then perhaps it would have been a season-ender but this news suggests he might be back sooner rather than later.
The Brazilian midfielder does bring something different to the team than the other central midfielders.
He has the energy to get from one end of the pitch to the other very quickly, the guile of a number 10 and the defensive capabilities of a number six.
This is really good news about Danilo and hopefully, the official line will confirm that eight weeks is the time that Forest hope to be missing the player.
