Nottingham Forest are on the hunt for a new striker this summer and things are now starting to heat up on that front.

One man who has been linked is Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez who scored 26 goals in the Eredivisie last season.

The Reds were claimed to have made an opening bid which was rejected by Feyenoord and Forest will need to up the ante.

In the Netherlands, this is proving a hot topic of discussion with a number of other clubs keen to land the striker this month too.

Journalist delivers verdict on Santiago Gimenez to Nottingham Forest

It would appear that there is no smoke without fire and the interest from Forest in Gimenez is genuine – although there is work to do.

The player won’t be going anywhere if the price isn’t right and ultimately the Reds have to return with a second offer for the 23-year-old.

Dutch journalist Martijn Krabbendam believes that the ball is in the player’s court with this deal.

He told ESPN: “Forest is the only club that is concrete. I think it looks like a nice move for him. My feeling is that if the player wants the move then it will work out. But it’s on the player, it’s going to depend on him.”

Gimenez would be a quality signing for Forest

It was claimed over the weekend that Nuno Espirito Santo and Miltos Marinakis had already spoken with Gimenez about a possible switch to Forest.

This is standard practice in this day and age and Forest were perhaps testing the water to see how Gimenez felt about heading to the Premier League.

The player would surely welcome the chance to move to a top European league and at Forest he’d get the chance to play every single week.

Chris Wood is the man in form at the top end of the pitch for Forest but Taiwo Awoniyi has struggled with a number of niggling injuries.

Now, it’s intriguing to see what will happen with Gimenez and Forest, with the transfer window edges closer to a finish.

Hopefully, Forest can get something over the line and welcome a natural-born goalscorer to the club this summer.
