Nottingham Forest have decided who they would rather sign out of Eddie Nketiah and Santiago Gimenez

Nottingham Forest are ramping up their efforts to sign a new striker this month and it’s never dull as the transfer window winds to a close on Trentside.

Yesterday, Forest were linked with two new strikers – with Arsenal star Eddie Nketiah being joined by Feyenoord talisman Santiago Gimenez on the shortlist.

Fabrizio Romano claimed in the morning that Forest wanted Gimenez and had seen a first bid rejected by the Eredivisie outfit.

Then, later in the evening David Ornstein suggested Forest wanted to sign Eddie Nketiah and were instead prioritising a deal for him.

But, which player is actually being prioritised by Forest this summer as the club bids to complete their squad with a little more firepower?

Which striker Nottingham Forest will make their top target

Forest aren’t leaving any stone unturned this summer and it looks like a striker is now right at the top of the club’s shortlist. But, which one…

We asked HITC Football’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey who he believes is the number one striker that Forest want and he’s delivered a defiant response.

He told Nottingham Forest News: “Eddie Nketiah is an option for Forest but I am told that Santiago Gimenez is their top target, but they know getting him is not easy, there is interest from around Europe and it’s not an easy deal to finalise – but they do want him.”

Gimenez bagged 26 goals last season for Feyenoord and has already scored four goals during 2024/25 – bagging two in four minutes during a 5-1 win over PEC Zwolle at the weekend.

Gimenez is probably a safer risk than Nketiah

Given that the Mexican is only 23 and has been scoring for fun – albeit in the Eredivisie – he’s a striker that more fans would likely get behind.

It’s nothing against Nketiah but at 25 there scepticism is that he might have missed his calling as a 20-goal-a-season striker.

Arsenal are a club crying out for a number nine yet he can’t convince Mikel Arteta that he’s worth a run of games at the Emirates Stadium.

As with any new striker signing, there will always be pros and cons – especially for a club that sits where Forest do in the Premier League food chain.

It’s certainly positive news that Gimenez is the number one target – according to Bailey – and Nketiah is seemingly a fallback option if that move falls south for any reason.

With just over a week to go of the transfer window, things look set to be heating up!
