Nottingham Forest didn’t use the loan market particularly well last season and this summer the club is yet to sign any temporary additions.
Alex Moreno has been linked with a loan to Forest and perhaps one of two will happen before the window closes.
Last season, however, was a disaster with all of the club’s loan projects failing to make any impact of note on Forest’s campaign.
With that in mind, it proved surprising that Forest were linked with one of their underperforming players on a permanent basis.

Nottingham Forest unlikely to go for Gonzalo Montiel
The Argentine defender was busy winning the Copa America with Argentina in the summer – with that medal going alongside his World Cup medal.
This morning, journalist Fernando Serrano, claimed Forest were close to the re-signing of Montiel on a permanent deal.
He said that the Reds were going to pay around £7 million for the player’s signature and will also include another couple of million in the way of add-ons.
Montiel spent the 2023/24 campaign at the City Ground and struggled for a consistent run of games in the team.
Now, Paul Taylor – writing for The Athletic – has claimed that it’s very unlikely that Forest will be moving to land Montiel this summer.
Last season, Montiel’s best two performances came during a 3-1 win over Newcastle and a 2-1 win over Manchester United in December.
In 19 appearances, he registered three assists for Forest and it had looked as though the club weren’t keen on taking him permanently.
It appears that Forest haven’t changed their mind over Montiel and it will be music to the ears of supporters that the defender isn’t in the club’s sights.
Montiel would have been most disappointing signing of the summer so far
In our view, this would have undone the seriously good work that Forest have done this summer.
Forest have added quality players who have relatively high ceilings and who haven’t cost the club an arm and a leg.
The Reds do have gaps to fill in the squad but it’s imperative that they don’t start panicking as the window draws to a close.
Forest would be wise to remain calm and keep working their way down the shortlist of targets for their final signings of the summer.
Hopefully, the ever-reliable Taylor is spot on here and Montiel isn’t on the club’s hit list.
