Nottingham Forest have completed their ninth signing of the summer with David Carmo joining the club from Porto.
The central defender who spent last season on loan with Olympiacos will now spend another year in Greece with the Conference League champions.
Forest clearly have eyes for Carmo playing for them in the future, however, with the player signing a five-year contract with the club.
The Reds have also loaned Marko Stamenic to Olympiacos this summer and now Carmo will bolster Evangelos Marinakis’ other club in the short term.
Naturally, this kind of deal does catch the attention of the fan base – with some viewing them as more constructive than other, more cynical, supporters.
However, some eagle-eyed supporters have been able to see the bigger picture with this capture.

Nottingham Forest fans know who will replace Murillo
Next summer, the Reds will perhaps be a little bit short of central defenders – especially if Murillo finally lands a big move to a top club.
Willy Boly will also be out of contract but fans believe the signing of Carmo has seen Forest sign the replacement for Murillo.
Another fan posted on X and said: “Long-term Murillo replacement?”
Another Forest supporter was also impressed with the deal to sign Carmo, saying: “I like this signing. Possibly the first one we’ve signed and sent to Olympiacos that makes sense.”
Carmo looks like a useful addition
At 25, Carmo once again fits a clear profile of the sort of players that Forest have tried to sign this summer.
Okay, it’s far from ideal that Forest have parted with a decent sum of money to essentially bolster the squad at Olympiacos but there is a clear plan.
Carmo will come in next pre-season at a time when Forest might have been decimated following the loss of Murillo to a club playing in Europe.
He’s a vastly experienced defender and was integral last season as Olympiacos became the first Greek club to win a European trophy.
Carmo will now hope to enjoy a solid season in Greece before returning to Forest extremely sharp ready to hit the ground running in the Premier League.
