Nottingham Forest want ‘exceptional’ goalkeeper who wowed David Seaman last season

Nottingham Forest are trying to strengthen their squad ahead of tomorrow’s transfer window slamming shut.

The Reds have signed nine players so far this summer and five of them played extremely well during yesterday’s defeat to Newcastle on penalties.

More is required though and Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to ensure the squad is well-stocked for the first half of the campaign.

A striker is the number one priority for the Reds, with Forest in talks to try and land Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt.

It’s not the only area of the pitch that Forest are looking to strengthen, however, and more than one player could be added on deadline day.

Nottingham Forest want Liverpool goalkeeper Caomhin Kelleher

According to Alan Nixon, Forest are keen to try and sign Kelleher before the transfer window slams shut tomorrow night.

Kelleher has been linked with Forest previously and he could now be back on the radar with the clock ticking towards the end of the window.

The Republic of Ireland goalkeeper has failed to oust Alisson from the number one spot at Anfield and given that he’s now 25, he might seek regular football.

Kelleher has come through the ranks at Liverpool but he’s been restricted to just 47 appearances in the senior team during his time at the club.

Alisson is the current number one goalkeeper and the Reds have also signed Giorgi Mamardashvili, although he will spend this season on loan with Valencia.

Kelleher would be quality addition to Forest squad

If this deal is to come to fruition, Forest will have to offload one of their three goalkeepers before the deadline.

Matz Sels is currently considered the number-one stopper, with Carlos Miguel playing well in the Carabao Cup against Newcastle last night.

Matt Turner is also still on Trentside and he will need moving on if another senior goalkeeper is added to the ranks.

Although a goalkeeper perhaps isn’t the top priority at the City Ground in the next 24 hours, Kelleher would provide an upgrade on the current crop.

He starred in the Carabao Cup final last season and was called ‘fantastic’ by legendary England goalkeeper David Seaman.

Jurgen Klopp was also a big fan of the goalkeeper during his time at Liverpool and called him ‘exceptional’ for his form when deputising for an injured Alisson.

Kelleher is not on a huge wage at Liverpool and if the price can be right in the way of a fee, this might not be a bad deal for Forest to complete.
