Nottingham Forest have been on the lookout for a new striker for the entire summer and things might be drawing to a close.

The Reds did hold interest in Arsenal star Eddie Nketiah but a deal fell through leaving Forest to look elsewhere.

Forest had booked Nketiah in for a medical at the City Ground but the move fell south late last week.

The 25-year-old isn’t keen on leaving London and clearly Forest didn’t get the juices flowing for the striker to leave Arsenal enough.

Now, an exciting update has been released by a reputable journalist who has a strong rapport as a man in the know when it comes to Forest.

John Percy delivers exciting Nottingham Forest update

The summer-long pursuit looks to finally be drawing to a close with Santiago Gimenez now close to a move to Forest.

A 23-year-old striker, Gimenez bagged 26 goals last season and Percy has made the claim in his latest piece for The Telegraph.

The striker has been preparing for a season playing Champions League football but Forest are now advancing in their negotiations with Feyenoord.

Forest look set to pay £29 million for the player, with a string of add-ons likely to be included in any possible deal.

Percy claims that Forest would like to have Gimenez signed in plenty of time to play against Wolves at the City Ground on Saturday.

Forest have Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi in their squad at present but another option has been sought this summer.

Gimenez is a full international with Mexico and on that stage, he’s scored four goals in 29 appearances.

Forest fans must back Gimenez and he could star

At 23, the player has a high ceiling and now it will be up to Gimenez to prove himself at the City Ground and in the Premier League.

Clearly, scoring goals in England will be more difficult than it was in Holland but he has time on his side.

Any player coming into Forest should get plenty of chances to score goals for the team.

Callum Hudson-Odoi, Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Elanga will create chances galore, with Elliot Anderson, Ramon Sosa and Jota Silva also in the squad.

It’s great that Forest have kept the Gimenez iron in the fire even when negotiating for Nketiah and now the club look to have finally got their man over the line.
