Nottingham Forest are set to complete their first signing of what promises to be a busy transfer deadline day.
Forest have been here before. Only 12 months ago, the Reds landed seven players on deadline day and hopefully, things won’t be quite so frantic today.
Forest have been rather shrewd in the transfer market this summer, however, and certainly, it feels like a quality-over-quantity exercise today.
Already, a few players have been linked, with striker Omar Marmoush in the sights of Forest as well as a goalkeeper – and possibly a midfielder.

Nottingham Forest agree deal to sign James Ward-Prowse
Fabrizio Romano has uttered the three words that every football fan craves with Ward-Prowse’s move to Nottingham Forest now given a ‘Here we go’.
He’s said on X: “Nottingham Forest agree deal to sign James Ward-Prowse from West Ham, here we go! Loan deal almost completed waiting on formal steps.”
The Hammers only signed Ward-Prowse for £30 million last summer but Julen Lopetegui doesn’t seem to fancy him and he’s played for just 16 minutes in the first two Premier League matches under the Spaniard.
Ward-Prowse is a deadly set-piece specialist and he is only two free-kicks away from breaking David Beckham’s record in the Premier League.
Ashley Cole is also a huge fan of the midfielder, calling him ‘special’ back in August 2023 following his West Ham debut.
It’s not clear at this stage whether or not there will be an option to sign him permanently next summer but this does feel like a positive step.
Forest have utilised the loan market properly this summer
Signing a player with 11 England caps and the set-piece capability of Ward-Prowse is not to be sniffed at from a supporter’s perspective.
Last season the club used the loan market in abysmal fashion and it was comical how poorly the loan signings performed at Forest.
Now, Forest are completing a deal for a player with over 400 appearances for Southampton to his name and a proven Premier League performer.
Ward-Prowse is deadly from set-piece situations and that is a trait that the City Ground will be buzzing to see in full flight.
At 29, the player still has plenty left to offer and in our view, this looks like a really positive transfer.
