Morgan Gibbs-White wrote his name into the history books after receiving an England call-up this week.

For the first time since 1997, Nottingham Forest has had a player called up to the England senior squad.

Interim boss Lee Carsley named his squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures against the Republic of Ireland and Finland and included Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White.

The number 10 has been one of the Reds’ standout players since Forest’s return to the Premier League, dazzling fans with his display.

So, to mark his maiden England call-up, we take a look at five Forest players who have received England call-ups while at the City Ground.

Morgan Gibbs-White

It would be rude not to start with Gibbs-White himself. After all, it has been 27 years since Forest has had someone called up to play for the Three Lions.

Gibbs-White is well accustomed to working under England interim boss Carsley having been a regular face within the Under-21 set-up.

Carsley spoke highly of Gibbs-White too in his squad announcement and there is every chance he could feature in one of the two games.

Stuart Pearce

One of the most iconic faces to play for Forest and the national team, Stuart Pearce spent 12 years at the City Ground.

Joining in 1985, Pearce received his first England call-up two years later and went on to become a stalwart for the Three Lions.

He featured at the 1990 World Cup where he missed a penalty in the semi-finals but recovered to return for Euro 1996, where he was one of the standout players for England.

Pearce would score in the shootout defeat to Germany in the semi-finals at Wembley Stadium but is still one of the most consistent players to have appeared for the national team.

It’s always great to see a local lad come through and play for the club but to watch Viv Anderson play for England while at Forest was something special.

Anderson played for England at four major tournaments and made history by becoming the first black player to be selected for the senior men’s national team and only the second non-white footballer to do so.

His impact on English football led to him being awarded an MBE, as well as a place in the Hall of Fame in 2004.

Nigel Clough

The son of Forest’s best manager ever, Nigel Clough was still able to forge a career out of his own means and while at Forest, was given his first call-up to the England senior squad.

Clough had impressed throughout the England youth systems, as well as at club level, and was finally rewarded with a senior call-up in 1989, making his debut against Chile.

He didn’t go on to cement his place as a regular and failed to score in his 13 international appearances – the final of those coming against Germany in 1993.

Following an impressive debut campaign in the Garibaldi red, Stan Collymore was rewarded with an England call-up in 1995.

He made his debut against Japan, playing up front alongside Alan Shearer in a 2-1 before being introduced as a substitute in the 90th minute against Brazil at Wembley Stadium.

Due to the level of competition in the forward positions, Collymore found it difficult to break into the squad and would only earn one more cap in his career.

Collymore played in a 1998 World Cup qualifier against Moldova, coming on off of the bench in a 4-0 win.
