Nottingham Forest made enquiry for ‘exceptional’ £25m player on deadline day

Nottingham Forest were linked with a number of goalkeepers during the summer transfer window.

The Reds did bring Carlos Miguel to the club from Corinthians but another was sought with Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos leaving the City Ground.

It’s been claimed that Forest were considering the re-signing of Brice Samba but that never came to fruition.

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher was also wanted by Forest but again, the club didn’t push to pay the valuation placed on his head.

Now, it’s emerged that Forest were looking at another goalkeeper ahead of the deadline.

Nottingham Forest made Aaron Ramsdale enquiry

According to The Athletic, Forest weren’t quite as proactive as some other clubs in the quest to sign a new stopper.

They have claimed, however, that Forest did ask about Ramsdale with a few days left until the deadline – but he’d already committed to signing for Southampton for £25 million.

The player departed Arsenal after losing his place to David Raya and he will now go in search of first-team football.

It would seem as though Forest are content with Miguel providing competition for Matz Sels at least until January.

Forest came up against Sam Johnstone on Saturday after he signed for Wolves and he’s another who has been linked with the Reds.

Last season, Ramsdale was praised as ‘exceptional’ by boss Mikel Arteta after a victory over Brentford in the Premier League

Forest right not to pay over the odds for a new goalkeeper

Since promotion, Forest have had a bit of a stinker when it comes to goalkeepers.

Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas did well enough during season one but last season proved pretty disastrous.

Neither Turner nor Vlachodimos covered themselves in glory last season and both have now departed after just over a year.

Sels has been solid without being spectacular but for now, he’s a reliable pair of hands that Forest can count on.

Furthermore, Miguel played well against Newcastle and together the two will be capable of fighting it out for the gloves this season.

Signing a player like Ramsdale would have been welcomed but not at the price Arsenal were asking.

Forest did a brilliant job of not overspending on unnecessary signings this summer and landing a goalkeeper would have been pointless at this stage.
