Nottingham Forest have just secured three huge points against Liverpool in a 1-0 victory at Anfield.

Callum Hudson-Odoi sealed the points after coming off the bench in the second half to provide Forest with the shock of the weekend.

Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side went into the game at Anfield on the back of a positive start to the season with one win and two draws from their opening three games.

But those results had come against much weaker opposition to what they faced on Saturday afternoon on Merseyside.

And it was a gutsy display from the Reds who were up against it as Nuno pulled off a tactical masterclass against a side who had not even conceded a goal up until Saturday.

Forest ended the game with their second win of the season and sitting inside the top four of the table.

It was an afternoon to remember for the travelling Forest fans and here is Nottingham Forest News‘ player ratings from the historic victory…

Matz Sels – 8

He almost went from hero to zero in the first half. Matz Sels had pulled off a number of solid stops between the Forest sticks to keep Liverpool at bay.

However, when he jumped up for a looping ball which he then dropped and almost turned into his own net, he nearly provided what would have been the blunder of the season.

Ola Aina – 7

Lining up on the right side, Ola Aina put in a seriously impressive display with Luis Diaz not getting much change out of the full-back before being withdrawn.

Murillo – 8

A performance filled with quality as he showed his defensive capability to keep Liverpool out during the opening 45 minutes.

But Murillo also demonstrated just why he is so highly thought of across the Premier League as he showcased some dazzling skill in his own half before playing through Morgan Gibbs-White.

Nikola Milenkovic – 8

It looks like Nuno has certainly found his centre-back pairing with Murillo and Nikola Milenkovic

Alex Moreno – 8

Deal incredibly well with one of the Premier League’s top players in Mohamed Salah. Battled through the second half despite taking one for the team in the opening 45 by taking a yellow card.

Had it not have been for the yellow card it would have been a 9/10.

Elliot Anderson – 7

Solid but not spectacular. It was a game which saw Forest sitting deep and looking to catch the hosts out on the counter attack.

With 60 minutes under his belt, it was a decent showing from Anderson.

Ryan Yates – 7

Coming in for the injured Ibrahim Sangare, Ryan Yates was let off massively when he was robbed of the ball by Diaz who then struck the post.

James Ward-Prowse – 8

After signing on loan in the final hours of the window, James Ward-Prowse was handed his Forest debut and offered a solid showing.

Forest did just about everything right tactics wise and Ward-Prowse certainly played his part in that.

Nicolas Dominguez – 6

A quiet display from the winger who was removed for the eventual game winner.

Morgan Gibbs-White – 7

Looked to get things going as always in the final third but was guilty of straying offside needlessly on a number of ocassions.

His blushes were spared after missing a one on one in the first half by the flag but it is something which he is going to have to work on.

Chris Wood – 7

Was feeding off scraps all game. Although he came in as Forest’s in form man, there was not a lot more Chris Wood could have done.

But the striker came off despite Wood being hailed as the Forest player to cause Liverpool problems.

Substitutes

Callum Hudson-Odoi – 9

Came on off the bench and scored a stunning goal to provide the Reds with all three points.

It was a trademark Callum Hudson-Odoi goal as he cut inside onto his right foot before firing beyond Allison.

Anthony Elanga – 9

Came on with 30 minutes remaining in the game and immediately forced a yellow card out of Andy Robertson within seconds of entering the pitch.

Despite starting from the bench, both Anthony Elanga and Hudson-Odoi came on with the attitude to change the game for the Reds.

Neco Williams – N/A

Kept it tight in his 10-minute cameo display. As Moreno did all game, Williams got the better of Salah.

Jota Silva – N/A

Just like Elanga, came on and forced a yellow card out of Ryan Gravenberch within minutes.

Morato – N/A

Did what was asked of him with the pressure on the Forest backline as Liverpool eyed an equaliser.
