Nottingham Forest fans are unsurprisingly elated after defeating Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday – but there has now been some bad news to sour the mood.
Nuno Espirito Santo has not been fortunate when it comes to injuries amidst the start of the 2024/25 campaign, after Danilo suffered a broken ankle within ten minutes of the opening game.
Now, there has been another blow for Nottingham Forest…
Ibrahim Sangare tears hamstring
A story from Football Insider now states that Ibrahim Sangare has torn his hamstring.
The Ivory Coast international had started all three of Nottingham Forest’s Premier League games before Saturday’s 1-0 win over Liverpool, but was nowhere to be seen at Anfield.
Now, it has been revealed that Sangare actually underwent surgery on his hamstring as Nottingham Forest reigned supreme on Merseyside, with the £75,000-a-week midfielder expected to be out until at least December.

As aforesaid, Danilo has also suffered a serious injury after breaking his ankle – with the Brazilian’s return date yet to be revealed – so Nuno has now lost two quality midfield options just four games into the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
Huge opportunity for James Ward-Prowse at Nottingham Forest
After Sangare tore his hamstring, James Ward-Prowse was given his first Premier League start for Nottingham Forest following his summer loan move from West Ham.
The England international did well in a tough environment, completing 82% of his attempted 38 passes while also making four interceptions – as SofaScore shows. It was a fine showing for someone who had never started alongside this group of players before, and also inside such a difficult stadium to play in for an away side.

Now, the onus is on Ward-Prowse, who was surprised to hear of Nottingham Forest’s European dominance in years gone by, to maintain these standards, as Nuno finds himself relying on his summer signing more than he perhaps would have expected to, following the injury to Sangare.
Hopefully, the Ivorian’s recovery all goes smoothly, and he can return to play a key role for the Garibaldi in 2025.
