Nottingham Forest enjoyed a rough relationship with the PGMOL last season amid several refereeing controversies involving the club.
Eyebrows were raised when Mark Clattenburg was appointed by Forest as a Referee Analyst – and the Gladiators man seemed unable to temper the situation.
If anything, that decision annoyed the PGMOL even more. Forest were on the wrong end of some absolute stinkers across the campaign and they very nearly relegated the club.
A game against Everton saw things come to a head. Forest were probably denied at least two penalties at Goodison Park and it led to a furious post on X from the football club.
Across the campaign, Forest were on the wrong end of some stinking decisions. However, Nuno Espirito Santo got a glimpse of how bad things had become when Willy Boly was sent off – incorrectly – against Bournemouth in his first game in charge.

Nottingham Forest fans are furious after referee announced for Brighton game
After the incident which saw Boly see red – and Forest lose 3-2 – it appeared highly unlikely that the referee that day, Rob Jones, would be doing a Forest game any time soon.
However, it would appear that the dust has settled now in the eyes of the PGMOL, with Jones selected as the man to referee Forest against Brighton on Sunday.
Many have taken to X on the back of this news and it would seem as though the news has been met with serious angst among the club’s fan base.
Another fan wrote on X his frustration at seeing Jones named as the referee: “My head is hot.”
Another fan was equally incensed, saying: “I’m having flashbacks already. Another clanger incoming from Mr Jones this weekend.”
Finally, another supporter said: “Forest fan base gone from glowing in the light of the Liverpool win to despair because we all know Rob Jobes might be the worst of them all! What could possibly go wrong I ask.”
Rob Jones record when refereeing Nottingham Forest
It’s somewhat frustrating that Jones is down to referee Forest. However, it has to be said that the club’s record when the referee has been in charge hasn’t been too bad at all.
During his career as a referee, Jones has overseen 17 Forest games, with the Reds on the winning end seven times, with five games ending in defeat.

Jones was the man in charge when Forest won their first home Premier League clash 1-0 against West Ham and also refereed both games against Leeds United during that season.
It’s going to be a hotly contested match when Forest travel to the AMEX Stadium. One thing Forest can’t afford to do is worry too much about the match official and once again the team will need a game plan.
It’s a bit annoying that the PGMOL have deemed Jones fit to referee Forest once again but some time has now passed and Forest have an important game to prepare for nonetheless.
