TNT Sports commentator thinks Nottingham Forest have a player with Champions League quality

Nottingham Forest went to Liverpool at the weekend and ruffled some Premier League feathers by winning 1-0 to claim a huge scalp.

The Reds won on the red half of Merseyside for the first time since 1969 and Nuno Espirito Santo did something that not even Brian Clough could achieve.

Forest won the game courtesy of a 72nd-minute goal from Callum Hudson-Odoi; his first goal of the 2024/25 campaign following his eight strikes last season for the Reds.

It’s hard to imagine many would have tipped Forest to still be unbeaten following the trip to Anfield, with Liverpool failing to concede a goal under Arne Slot before Saturday.

Forest have won two and drawn two of their four matches so far and currently sit in a very respectable seventh place in the Premier League table.

There were a number of strong performances at the weekend and the club looks to have done some magnificent business in the transfer market this summer.

Adam Summerton hails Nottingham Forest player

Amid some lazy assumptions about Forest and their spending this summer, it’s good to see that some pundits are still capable of providing substance to their opinions.

One of those is TNT Sports commentator Adam Summerton – and he’s been left stunned at the fact Forest were able to sign Nikola Milenkovic during the summer.

It’s not so much that he is shocked he’s chosen Forest, but he’s very surprised that the club were able to tempt Fiorentina into the sale of their star defender for just £12 million.

After Saturday’s game, he took to X and said: “In quiet moments the Forest recruitment team must reminisce about the moment they had a £12m offer accepted for a CL standard CB in his prime years.

“Milenkovic making a mockery of that fee – I honestly don’t know what Fiorentina were thinking, and said so at the time.”

Milenkovic is a future Forest captain

Wearing the armband isn’t unnatural to the Serbian defender. He was the captain for Fiorentina as they reached back-to-back Conference League finals and is now the captain for his country.

Milenkovic has the experience of big occasions that make him a dream to the Forest squad where many members don’t boast quite as much experience as he does.

At 26, he’s in his prime years – and Summerton has hit the nail on the head. A fee of £12 million is actually ridiculous business and it’s time Forest got some more respect.

When the club first came up, landing 23 players in one summer, rightly saw the club ridiculed. Now, however, things have changed and the lazy assumptions about the club’s recruitment should cease.

Forest have hit the jackpot with Milenkovic and it would be no surprise whatsoever if he takes the armband at some point during the current campaign.
