Nottingham Forest star makes pre-list for international recognition next month

Nottingham Forest completed the capture of Murillo from Corinthians during the summer of 2023 and his stock has risen considerably.

The centre-back made his debut for Forest in a 1-1 draw with Brentford in October and played in every Premier League game following that point.

Forest held off clubs in the race to sign Murillo during the summer with Evangelos Marinakis valuing the defender around the £70 million mark.

The Reds stood firm on that sum and no club came forward with an offer that tempted Forest into a sale of one of their prized assets.

Now, Forest should be able to look forward to another full season of Murillo and next summer there is no saying what the defender could be worth if the club can kick on.

On Sunday against Brighton, Murillo did something that nobody in the Premier League has managed this season by completing 15 clearances in one match.

Murillo could now get Brazil recognition

Following his Forest exploits, Murillo is now in the sights of Brazil ahead of the next round of international fixtures next month.

According to ESPN, Murillo is on a pre-list that head coach Dorival Junior trying to make sure that Brazil qualify for the World Cup in 2026.

Murillo has joined a host of players from Botafogo and Flamengo on that list and he could now get the nod next month.

The 22-year-old is a man in demand. It was claimed earlier this week that Real Madrid are now looking at Murillo ahead of a move next summer.

Forest fought off competition from Manchester City for Murillo and perhaps Pep Guardiola now wishes he’d tempted City’s hierarchy to part with the £10.6 million to secure his services.

Forest must try and keep Murillo this season

The January transfer window will bring more competition for his signature but Forest should stand firm during that particular window.

It’s always harder to shop in January and ultimately Forest might struggle to find a proper replacement for Murillo during that month.

If Murillo gets into the Brazil squad next month and for the foreseeable, it will only enhance Forest’s chances of raking in a huge sum of money when the time does come to sell.

At 22, he has bags of time on his side to be playing for a top club. Right now, Forest looks like a good club fro Murillo and it represents an opportunity to play every week.

With Morgan Gibbs-White getting England recognition and now Murillo on the verge of a Brazil call-up, it showcases that Forest are definitely a club on the up for potential new signings to consider.
