Independent committee deliver verdict on red card shown to Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White

The debate rumbles on following the decision made to show Morgan Gibbs-White a red card during last weekend’s 2-2 draw for Nottingham Forest against Brighton.

Forest saw their number 10 dismissed for a second yellow card in the 82nd minute at the AMEX Stadium and he now misses the weekend game with Fulham.

Rob Jones initially signalled that the player got the ball and didn’t actually award a free-kick straight away as Gibbs-White stopped Joao Pedro from making a counter-attack.

New footage also shows Anthony Taylor saying to Jones that he thought Gibbs-White got the ball before changing his mind and asking Jones to do the same.

This week, Gibbs-White has been doing some coaching with the youth team and he will be gutted to miss the home game against Fulham.

There could be a further charge for Gibbs-White to answer for his behaviour afterwards – but Forest will be hopeful he can get away with any further sanction than a one-match ban.

Independent panel deliver verdict on Morgan Gibbs-White sending-off

As with every decision, an independent committee meet to discuss the weekend’s big decisions and now Gibbs-White’s has been heard.

In an article released by BBC Sport, it’s been claimed that the panel reached a 3-2 verdict in favour of Gibbs-White, with the majority suggesting he shouldn’t have been shown a second yellow card.

The committee is made up of three ex-professional footballers or coaches, one Premier League representative and someone from the PGMOL.

It’s quite telling that the panel have voted in this way, whilst Jones hasn’t been given a game at all this weekend following his latest Forest blunder.

Forest must now place full focus on Fulham this weekend

One thing that has been evident so far this season from a Forest perspective has been the strength in depth that Nuno Espirito Santo has available to him.

As a result, the Forest head coach must focus on what he has got available this weekend and not what he hasn’t.

The likes of Jota Silva and Ramon Sosa will be in the mix to make their first Premier League starts and a window of opportunity will be available to someone.

It’s not ideal for Forest not to have Gibbs-White available but this incident last weekend must now be parked and the Reds must focus on securing a first three points on home soil since April!
