How Evangelos Marinakis felt about the match officials after 1-0 defeat to Fulham

Nottingham Forest lost 1-0 at home to Fulham and once again the Reds were left to rue some seriously poor decisions from the referee and VAR.

Fulham’s only goal came from the penalty spot after Murillo was deemed to have fouled Andreas Pereira shortly after the interval.

Later in the piece, Forest were denied a penalty when Josh Smith wasn’t even sent to the screen to look at a possible foul on Anthony Elanga.

It’s quite remarkable that inconsistencies can be so evident at the elite level of English football and for Forest supporters, it’s becoming a joke.

Last weekend at Brighton, Morgan Gibbs-White was sent off despite the referee Rob Jones suggesting that he’d not given the free kick and the player had played the ball.

Once again, however, Forest are finding themselves getting some raw deals with decisions and after yesterday, another apology will probably be on the horizon.

How Evangelos Marinakis felt about the officials during Forest vs Fulham

The Forest owner was at the City Ground yesterday and he watched on as the Reds were once on the wrong end of some shockers.

The penalty kick was harsh, to say the least, and if that one is being recommended for a review, it’s a mystery that the one on Elanga wasn’t.

This isn’t an excuse either. Forest didn’t deserve to win yesterday but once again the game was decided by a referee viewing the game from miles away.

The Telegraph claims that Marinakis was angered by the officials yesterday as Forest succumbed to the first defeat of the campaign.

The article also includes a quote from a senior Forest source and it’s clear that the club are once again unhappy.

It’s claimed they said: “The standard of refereeing is destroying the status of the Premier League and damaging its clubs.

“There appears to be no consistency of decision-making from VAR.

“There still isn’t sufficient transparency in the VAR process. It’s the fans who suffer too.

“VAR was intended to improve the game for clubs and supporters alike, but it’s failing them at the moment.”

Forest had chance to stamp colours to the mast with VAR

We obviously back the club with the decisions of late but it’s hard to have too much sympathy even as fans of the club as Forest voted for VAR to stay!

The Premier League clubs all voted during the summer to potentially ditch VAR but it was a 19-1 victory for VAR to stay, with Wolves the only club voting against it.

Forest were clearly convinced by the powers that be that things would change but so far that hasn’t been evident during the last couple of games.

Now, Forest are going to get little sympathy for their whinging of the VAR in its current form – regardless of how inept it all feels.

Marinakis clearly isn’t happy again though.

Forest could probably do with the international break coming along allowing everything to simmer down again and Forest taking stock of the season so far as a whole.
