Nottingham Forest have a very proud history when it comes to the times of old and it’s something for the club to be proud of.
The club won two European Cups in successive seasons in 1979 and 1980 making them a part of the competition’s history.
Forest defeated Malmo in the 1979 final and then defeated German champions Hamburg in 1980 to win the title again.
Under the influence of the legendary Brian Clough, a group of players became legends and the ‘Miracle Men’ are constantly remembered to this day.
The club’s owner Evangelos Marinakis is extremely proud of that aspect of the club and is always keen to ensure that the legacy lives on, which was evident from Marinakis’ plans in the summer.
Recently, the Greek businessman – and the man who took Forest back to the Premier League – has helped out a Miracle Man and John McGovern is seriously impressed.

John McGovern amazed by Evangelos Marinakis gesture
Viv Anderson was recently trying to sell one of his European Cup-winning medals and that didn’t sit right with Marinakis.
So, instead of Anderson having to sell it and never get the chance to see it again, Marinakis purchased it and has decided to stick it in the club’s museum.
McGovern thinks that gesture is fantastic from the club’s owner and highlights his commitment to the club.
He said on TalkSPORT: “The club is obviously very proud of the fact that Forest have won the European Cup twice. As players when you win it, you obviously get a medal which is one of your prized possessions until you realise there is something more luxurious that you want to buy!
“Mr Marinakis keeping it in the club, I mean he’s totally dedicated, he has a very successful club in Greece, Olympiacos and he wants to repeat that success here with Forest and the Premier League.
“It’s a much tougher league and to add a bit of glamour to the club by putting Viv’s piece of memorabilia in the trophy cabinet is superb.
“My two medals are in the wardrobe stuffed away somewhere but I’ve still got them!
“He’s a very generous man and he’s involved in a number of different charities and on this occasion we’ve got a display cabinet and museum at the club and it’s going to be great for people to see what it actually looks like.”
Marinakis wants Forest to go to the next level
Seeing a club like Aston Villa marching on against Bayern Munich in the transfer market will naturally make Forest fans very envious.
The club would dearly love to get back to those kind of European nights and nobody wants that more than Marinakis.
Forest have a way to go just yet before that can even be a pipedream but there is absolutely nothing wrong with daring to dream about European football coming to the City Ground.
This gesture from Marinakis is brilliant. It would have hurt Anderson to have to cash in on his winning medal and now it will at least remain at Forest.
Marinakis has always been supportive of Nuno, and this now shows how much he cares about the club.
McGovern has delivered a nice assessment of Marinakis and hopefully, even his strongest critics are now starting to appreciate that the owner has the club’s best interests at heart.
