Jeff Stelling admits he thought £5m Nottingham Forest ace was the worst in the Premier League

Nottingham Forest were indebted to Matz Sels as his heroics helped the team claim a 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The Reds gave it everything once again away from home and maintained an unbeaten run of form away from the City Ground.

Sels earned praise from former England stopper Joe Hart for his efforts, with a host of quality saves being made by the Belgian.

It was a performance that Sels has probably been dreaming of since he signed for Forest from Strasbourg in January.

Earlier this season Sels took some criticism against Brighton, with the stopper allowing a Danny Welbeck free-kick to beat him.

Nuno Espirito Santo has stuck with his goalkeeper though and yesterday, Sels repaid the faith shown in him by the Forest head coach.

What Jeff Stelling has said about Forest stopper Matz Sels

The Reds were thankful that Sels clearly remembered to eat his Shredded Wheat yesterday morning – producing a performance that will stay long in the memory.

Sels produced his best display in the Premier League for Forest by a considerable distance and made a mockery of his £5 million transfer fee.

Stelling has been prompted to issue an apology to Sels and he’s taken that chance this morning live on national radio.

He told TalkSPORT (07/10; 07:50am): “I’m just going to throw my hands up here about Matz Sels. When people have asked me before, who is the least good goalkeeper in the Premier League, I’ve said Sels. But boy did he prove me wrong. He was absolutely incredible against Chelsea.”

Sels is established as the number one goalkeeper at Forest

Carlos Miguel did well in his maiden outing in the Carabao Cup but right now, Sels is the number one goalkeeper for a reason at Forest.

The Belgian performer has a lot to offer the team and his experience – along with some brilliant saves – came to the fore yesterday.

Sels took a yellow card for the team during the game with Chelsea as Forest fought desperately to hold on to a point with 10 men.

Miguel will get a chance to play at some point but he’s perhaps considered as one with the future in mind for Forest.

Sels proved himself to a lot of critics yesterday and he’s showcased why Espirito Santo has stamped his colours to the mast and made him the number-one goalkeeper.
