Ola Aina contract update at Nottingham Forest amid Roma transfer interest

Nottingham Forest have made a strong start to the Premier League campaign and that has led to some interest from overseas in the Nigerian defender Ola Aina.

Forest have been meticulous in the transfer market for a couple of summer windows now. Aina was a sign of that when he was picked up for free after Serie A outfit Torino released him in the summer of 2023.

Forest had to wait patiently to get their man but he ended up becoming the club’s first addition ahead of the 2023/24 campaign – with 12 more players joining him during that window.

Aina was only given a one-year contract at the time as he bid to prove his fitness. He did that to a certain degree and Forest offered him an extension – another year – which he accepted in the summer.

Now, after a strong start to the season for Forest, Aina is being courted by Roma as they look to bring the player back to Italy, with a pre-contract arrangement allowed to be sanctioned in January.

Nottingham Forest in advanced talks to keep Ola Aina

According to TalkSPORT, Roma look set for disappointment. Forest are now quite far down the line with Aina over a new contract and advanced negotiations are taking place with the full-back.

Aina has made 29 appearances for Forest since arriving at the club. This season, he’s taken on a role at right-back after starring at left-back during 2023/24.

The man who helped Nigeria reach the African Cup of Nations Final in January is clearly a respected member of the dressing room and plays the game with a smile on his face.

It was claimed earlier this week that Forest might consider listening to offers for Aina – with £8 million the fee that reports in Italy were claiming would be required.

Forest could also be set to offer Chris Wood an extension to his contract and clearly, the strong start to the season has persuaded the Reds into action on the contract front.

Forest have to keep Aina at the City Ground

The Reds don’t want to turn into a selling club and the fact that Aina is so close to his contract expiring means that the club has to be quick with this one.

With the talks advanced it would imply that Forest have been working on this one behind the scenes and hopefully, something can be close.

Aina’s work at Forest isn’t restrictive to the green bit. He takes part in a lot of the media duties and is also someone who gets involved with community projects.

The international is only 27-years-old and is approaching his prime as a player. As a result, it makes things a no-brainer to give him an extended deal and Forest would be wise to tie him down for a few more years.
