Kelvin Wilson can’t quite believe ‘lucky’ signing Nottingham Forest pulled off

Nottingham Forest made some very eye-catching signings during the summer transfer window and the club are now reaping the rewards.

Forest moved to eighth in the Premier League last night with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at the City Ground.

Chris Wood scored the only goal of the game for Forest and he’s now found the net on five occasions this season.

Ally McCoist raved about Wood after the game and he was one of many Forest players who came up trumps.

Matz Sels was also in the headlines for some smart saves and the hosts thoroughly deserved to win against Palace.

The club’s new signings have really improved things though, with Nikola Milenkovic and Alex Moreno both bringing quality to the defensive unit.

Elliot Anderson is another new recruit currently showcasing his class at Forest and Kelvin Wilson has delivered a verdict on the player.

Kelvin Wilson delivers verdict on Forest star Elliot Anderson

Forest actually parted with £35 million to sign Anderson from Newcastle during the summer transfer window.

But, that doesn’t tell a full story with Newcastle helping Forest to meet PSR criteria and vice versa.

Newcastle returned the favour by signing Odysseas Vlachodimos for £20 million and it’s fair to say Forest got the better end of the bargain.

Wilson thinks Forest should feel very lucky to have got Anderson over the line in the summer – but can’t believe Newcastle sanctioned a departure.

The former defender told the Forest Focus podcast: “I think he had a point to prove. He wants to play in that position. Going back to Newcastle, they must be kicking themselves. With what they’re trying to do with the new owners that came in, why they let him go I haven’t got a clue. Lucky for Forest we got him.”

Anderson looks tailor-made to replace Morgan Gibbs-White

There will come a time when Forest have to lose Gibbs-White to a bigger club given how talented he is.

In hindsight, it would be great to think that the two players can have many years doing great things at Forest together but that looks unlikely.

Anderson, however, has been signed a little bit behind Gibbs-White in terms of progression but is certainly not any worse off when it comes to potential.

Last night, the player showcased his quality in the number 10 role and he was extremely impressive during his time on the pitch.

Anderson gives his all in every single game and in our view, it’s impossible not to agree with Wilson over Newcastle’s decision.

Eddie Howe must already be kicking himself…
