Former teammate stunned Nottingham Forest signed player for £12m this summer

Nottingham Forest enjoyed a pretty successful transfer window during the summer and managed to strengthen the squad in most areas of the pitch.

The Reds got 11 new recruits through the door, with David Carmo and Marko Stamenic immediately joining Olympiacos on loan for the season.

A host of quality players were added and it really felt as though Forest learned some lessons from their first two summer windows back in the Premier League.

A new striker was perhaps the only omission from the montage of transfers, with Santiago Gimenez rejecting Forest at the eleventh hour.

Forest are sitting pretty in eighth place in the Premier League ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Leicester.

A highlight of the campaign so far has been the solid resolution from the defence and that is clearly something that Nuno Espirito Santo has worked tirelessly on.

Former teammate stunned Nottingham Forest signed Nikola Milenkovic

Some eyebrows were raised when Forest managed to get a deal to sign Milenkovic over the line after parting with just £12 million.

After a game with Chelsea recently, Henry Winter delivered huge praise on Milenkovic and he looks like an absolute steal.

Milenkovic has helped steady the ship defensively at Forest and the club are yet to concede a goal from a corner this season – despite a woeful set piece record last campaign.

Now, one of his former teammates, Vincent Laurini has admitted that he’s somewhat stunned that Fiorentina allowed him to join Forest.

He told Firenze Viola: “It surprised me. I would never have said it, after so many times that he was there as a leader of the defence.

“Having sold him like that left me a bit taken aback, he was a boy with a lot of experience and to get rid of him like that is a shame.

“Nikola is a strong player and he was very happy in Florence.”

Milenkovic can lead Forest to glory

There is a sense that this season can be a really positive one for Forest and Milenkovic will be a part of any success.

He’s absolutely dynamite in the air and has won 25 headers already this season, according to The Other 14 on X.

Milenkovic leads by example by orchestrating the back four and by constantly performing successfully on the pitch.

Shortly after arriving at Forest, he was made the permanent captain of Serbia and to get that level of leadership for peanuts in the transfer market is unheard of.

The fan base has really taken to Milenkovic and in our view, he could help take Forest to a level that wasn’t expected at the start of the season.

The Reds will have to stay grounded but with Milenkovic marshalling the rearguard, anything is possible!
