You would think Steve Cooper had never even managed Nottingham Forest with the avoidance of any question posed around his former club.

All that Nottingham Forest fans will be thinking right now is about the potential of European football, with fifth position in the Premier League now ours for the time being.

It remains to be seen as to whether the Reds can maintain their fine form with the tough run of fixtures coming up against two of the top three.

However, the positive is that Nuno Espirito Santo will return for the tough run of fixtures, as he has just one game left in his suspension which will come against West Ham.

It was actually a blessing in disguise for Forest last time out against Crystal Palace, as Nuno Espirito Santo spotted an issue from his vantage point to address.

It was the turn of Steve Cooper to speak out after the loss to Nottingham Forest, and he blamed the loss on one thing.

Steve Cooper makes post-match admission after loss to Nottingham Forest

Leicester City controlled the game in terms of possession, but Nottingham Forest had nine more shots and were far more ruthless in front of goal.

Chris Wood is largely to thank for that, as his two goals were what proved to be the difference.

Steve Cooper didn’t acknowledge the brilliance of Wood though, as he instead blamed the loss on one things at the King Power Stadium.

Speaking on Leicester City’s YouTube channel after the game, he said that the loss was ‘self-inflicted’ and mistakes cost them the goals.

“Well, we’ve only got ourselves to blame the for the result. Obviously self-inflicted in how the game went, you know we’ve been punished for for giveaways for the goals, but at the same time, we shouldn’t be making mistakes like that in the in the build up to their goals.

“Obviously, we, you know, got back into the game and had a lot of control but needed to do more after conceding so early on in the second half.”

A mixture of mistakes and a ruthless Chris Wood

Leicester City did make their fair share of mistakes, especially in the build-up to the first goal.

However, to blame it entirely on his side and give no credit to Nottingham Forest is a bit strange, as it would be a different story without Chris Wood’s excellence in front of goal.

Nuno Espirito Santo spotted an improvement to be made in the second half, which involved getting Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga to drop into the middle.

Whereas, Steve Cooper failed to make the adjustments to counter the Forest press and ran out of ideas towards the end of the game.
