Chris Wood has caught the attention of fans and pundits up and down the country, with one former player even bringing him up in the same conversation as Alan Shearer and Didier Drogba.

With the way Chris Wood is going this season, you wouldn’t be surprised if clubs started looking at big old-fashioned number nines in January.

Nottingham Forest has truly uncovered the real Chris Wood, but it’s not without the service of a number of other players, who often don’t get the same praise.

Five different players have got assists in the current campaign, and Morgan Gibbs-White isn’t even one of them, which shows how spread the contributions have been.

Chris Wood was brought up as someone to monitor prior to the West Ham clash after picking up a knock against Leicester, and Nuno Espirito Santo will be glad he played him.

Given his rise in form this season, the striker was even brought up in the same conversation as Alan Shearer and Didier Drogba by one former Premier League player.

Robert Huth hails Chris Wood and even makes a comparison

Robert Huth enjoyed a successful time of things in the Premier League, as he lifted the trophy three times during his time at Chelsea and Leicester City.

He’s now turned to punditry, as well as being Leicester City’s loans manager, and Chris Wood has caught his eye.

Speaking on the BBC, Robert Huth said he’s played against Didier Drogba and Alan Shearer in his time, but Chris Wood is really starting to impress him.

“I used to hate playing against an old-school number nine. I probably played against one of the best in [Didier] Drogba and Alan Shearer, you knew in the game, you knew the ball was going to come in the box and you’re having to defend.

“I actually had Woody [Chris Wood] when I was at Leicester when he first came through, so I know exactly what he’s like. He’s always been a great finisher and always had really good movement in the box, but as the game developed into a different direction with a false number nine, he didn’t probably get the chance at other Premier League clubs that he should have had.”

How good is Chris Wood?

Chris Wood just seems to get better with age.

His knack for getting into the right positions at the right times is unmatched, as a real poacher and target man in the box for Nottingham Forest.

Even Martin O’Neill said he’s surprised at how good Wood has been, especially since he’s now the joint-second top scorer in the Premier League.

It’s safe to say that Wood has transformed his career at the City Ground, with a new contract even being flirted with at the age of 32.

It takes a special kind of player to still be putting up the numbers Wood is at his age, especially with how quick and impressive the centre-backs are in the top flight nowadays.
