Elliot Anderson has been one of the signings of the summer for Nottingham Forest, and he’s now come out and admitted that he spoke to one player before he joined.

Newcastle United reluctantly let Elliot Anderson leave during the summer transfer window to join Nottingham Forest in a £35 million deal.

It was PSR issues that forced through the transfer, with Odysseas Vlachodimos going the other way in a separate transfer to satisfy both clubs.

Eddie Howe didn’t actually want the midfielder to leave and would have happily kept him at Newcastle if it wasn’t for the financial restraints the club were under.

Now, Anderson has come out and spoken about the moment prior to him moving to Nottingham Forest, and the influence one player had in particular.

Elliot Anderson admits he spoke to Chris Wood before deciding to join Nottingham Forest

Chris Wood also had a spell at Newcastle United, so it makes perfect sense for Anderson to speak to someone who had previously left St James’ Park and could give him some insight into Forest.

However, it doesn’t look as if Anderson took much persuading as he was really looking forward to playing some regular football after being used as a substitute mostly at Newcastle.

Elliot Anderson has given an interview to The Times, where he spoke about the fact that he paid a phone call to Chris Wood before joining Nottingham Forest.

“I spoke to Chris Wood before I came. He’s taken me under his wing. I just wanted to be playing football, that’s what everyone wants to do. I’ve got off to a good start.”

Elliot Anderson’s season to date at Nottingham Forest

Anderson already has three assists to his name this season, which is two more than any other player at Nottingham Forest.

Lewis McGugan has already been left impressed by Elliot Anderson, with plenty of excitement building about his performances this season.

The fact that he’s still 22 years old is mind-blowing, especially as he’s already flirting with a place in the England squad, and he’s nowhere near reaching his full potential yet.

This weekend’s clash with Newcastle will be an interesting one, as Nuno Espirito Santo will have to make room for the midfielder. The likes of Nicolas Dominguez and Ryan Yates put in impressive performances against West Ham last time out, and it’s unlikely he’ll want to drop either of them.
