Nottingham Forest are moving to tie down one of their star players to a new contract with interest rife from elsewhere.

The Reds have lost back-to-back games for the first time this season – shipping three goals in games against Newcastle and Arsenal.

Forest are still on the right path though and after 12 games occupy seventh place in the Premier League table.

Nuno Espirito Santo bemoaned his team after yesterday’s 3-0 defeat to Arsenal, with the Forest head coach having praise for Leandro Trossard.

James Ward-Prowse came under fire from Forest supporters but there have been some really positive performers across the campaign so far.

With that in mind, the club are trying to keep certain players at the City Ground and there has been some news on that front.

Nottingham Forest in advanced talks over Ola Aina deal

This one has been in the pipeline for a little while.

According to The Athletic, Forest are now progressing in talks with Aina over a new contract to keep him at the club.

Aina is one of the best free transfer additions the club has ever made – certainly in recent history – having checked in from Torino in the summer of 2023.

Last season, the defender was tasked with playing as a left-back but this term he’s been excelling as a right-back – the position he considers himself to be more natural.

Alan Shearer has raved about Aina this season and now Forest are moving quickly to keep the £40,000-a-week player on Trentside.

Roma and AC Milan wanted to sign Ola Aina

The 28-year-old had been a superb addition to the Forest ranks and it’s no surprise that big clubs have been courting him.

Aina knows Serie A well too and Roma and AC Milan have watched the Forest man in action this season.

AS Roma Live was the source for that particular transfer interest but now Forest are hoping to get the player tied down to a longer contract.

It’s a big step for Forest to keep Aina. The club don’t want to become a club that lets its better players leave for free and now the club will preserve the player’s transfer valuation.

Aina appears to be a big character in the dressing room as well as on the pitch and the sooner this deal is announced the better for Forest.
