Nottingham Forest got back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town.

A dominant second 45 minutes from Nuno Espirito Santo’s side secured the points with Chris Wood providing the winning goal from the spot.

Wood impressed during international duty for New Zealand as he continued his stunning form in front of goal this season.

The 32-year-old was unable to score last weekend against Arsenal, but he proved the difference once again at the City Ground against Ipswich.

And it was a hugely important goal in the career of the striker as a Nottingham Forest player.

Chris Wood matches Bryan Roy’s Premier League goal record at Nottingham Forest

Before the game, the Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna praised Wood as a really dangerous player and that certainly proved to be the case.

The New Zealand international was able to find the back of the net for the ninth time in the Premier League this season.

And that goal from the penalty spot was able to take the 32-year-old level with Bryan Roy in the English top flight as a Forest player.

The pair have now scored 24 goals in the Premier League for Forest with Wood looking an absolute certainty to quickly claim the top spot.

Only a couple of weeks ago, Leon Osman hailed Wood as the best player in the Premier League and he is now just three goals behind Erling Haaland in the scorer’s chart.

Chris Wood has been the Premier League’s surprise package

Not many people would have had Forest down to be doing as well as they have this season and that is largely down to their striker.

Alan Shearer put Wood in his Team of the Season so far with the former Newcastle United striker proving his worth.

And it is not just Shearer who has been impressed, Gary Neville admitted Wood’s form has stunned him this season.

This is a record which has stood for 27 years now with Roy leaving the City Ground back in 1997 and it’s surely just a matter of time before Wood scored goal number 25.
