The transfer window is upon us once again and Nottingham Forest will be going in search of some new recruits this month.
Forest sit third in the Premier League table at the halfway point and nobody could have predicted such a brilliant first half of the campaign.
There are unlikely to be wholesale changes to the Forest squad this month in a change of tact compared to other January transfer windows since the Reds returned to the Premier League.
Kaua Elias is one player Forest are watching and perhaps a young attacking option will be one option that is sought before the window closes later this month.
Reports have suggested what the priority for Evangelos Marinakis is this month and it looks obvious that Forest will do some business should the right players become available.
A striker is on the radar, with Yuri Alberto one name linked with Forest, although landing a player who oozes goals is unlikely to be easy to do during the mid-season transfer window.
During the summer, Forest tried hard to land a new goalkeeper and one of those players linked with the football club some months ago is now already thought to be up for sale again.

Goalkeeper linked with Forest could now be sold this month
Caoimhin Kelleher was one name linked with Forest but England international Sam Johnstone was another name that simply wouldn’t go away.
Johnstone kept cropping up on various reports with Forest thought to be interested in signing the goalkeeper who lost his place to Dean Henderson at Crystal Palace.
In the end, Johnstone signed for Wolves for £10 million with Forest eventually choosing to stick with Matz Sels and Brazilian recruit Carlos Miguel as their options.
Now, The Telegraph claims that Johnstone could be allowed to leave Wolves with Vitor Pereira keen to reshuffle some things in his squad this month.
Johnstone has made just seven appearances for Wolves and conceded a staggering 17 goals during his time spent between the posts for the club.
It’s not clear what the demand will be for any club willing to take Johnstone but it’s fair to say that his move to the West Midlands looks to have been a complete and utter disaster.
Forest have moved on from Johnstone
It’s fair to say that Forest made the right choice to stick with Sels this season and not signing Johnstone was definitely the right thing to do.
No goalkeeper in the Premier League has kept more clean sheets than the eight kept by Sels during the first half of the campaign.
| Most Premier League clean sheets 2024/25 | Total |
| Matz Sels – Forest | 8 |
| Jordan Pickford – Everton | 7 |
| David Raya – Arsenal | 7 |
| Andre Onana – Manchester United | 6 |
The Belgian was a snip at £5 million from Strasbourg and ultimately he’s repaid the faith that has been afforded him by Nuno Espirito Santo.
Joe Hart has raved about Sels and it’s fair to say that the experienced stopper is proving a better option than Johnstone would have done this season.
It will be fascinating to see where Johnstone ends up after just a handful of games for Wolves but it looks pretty clear that he won’t be coming to Forest any time soon.
