Disaster for Nuno Espirito Santo as Arne Slot makes contact to sign Nottingham Forest target at Liverpool

Nottingham Forest are going in search of some new recruits this month although it will be a case of quality over quantity once more.

Right now, the football is the sole focus. Forest face Liverpool at the City Ground tonight looking to make it eight wins in succession and continue ruffling feathers at the top of the Premier League.

Arne Slot can’t stop talking about Forest. He’s literally still harping on about the win Forest claimed at Anfield back in September and should his team lose again tonight, his head might just spin clean away from his shoulders.

Chris Sutton and Paul Merson have made their predictions ahead of tonight. There are just six points separating the two teams and a win for either this evening would essentially create another sub-plot for this Premier League campaign.

Liverpool make contact to sign Forest-linked El Hadji Malick Diouf

It’s quite clear that both Forest and Liverpool will need a new left-back in the summer. As a result, it’s perhaps not a surprise that the two clubs want one of Europe’s top talents in that area of the pitch.

Forest are currently playing the right-sided Neco Williams at left-back, whilst Alex Moreno is only on loan at the City Ground from Aston Villa until the end of the current campaign.

Liverpool have a greater need for a left-back, however. Andy Robertson has fallen off of a cliff a little bit in terms of his form lately and now, according to Give Me Sport, Liverpool have made contact to sign Diouf.

It’s believed that Slavia Prague want to recruit a record transfer fee for the Czech division. That currently stands at £15 million with West Ham parting with that sum to sign Tomas Soucek.

Diouf has made 28 appearances during the 2024/25 campaign, scoring six goals and registering three assists. He’s also made six of his outings playing in the Europa League.

Forest have other areas to fill before a left-back is signed

The Reds would likely try to sign a left-back in the summer, however, it’s not that priority. That is likely to be another attacking player and that could be the sole signing this month.

Diouf does look like the type of player Forest would attract, however. He’s only 20 has some experience playing senior football and would retain a significant amount of resale value.

However, it now looks like Slot is holding the aces. With Liverpool looking certain to be in the Champions League next season that makes the move attractive to Diouf and he will almost certainly welcome a move to Anfield.

Forest do have Williams and Ola Aina who can play at left-back for next season. However, given that Moreno was added with both of those players at the club, Espirito Santo might still look for another option in the summer.
