Murillo rightfully earned all of the plaudits in Nottingham Forest’s hard-fought draw against Liverpool on Tuesday night.
The game was billed as a top of the table clash with Forest in third facing Premier League leaders Liverpool at the City Ground.
Forest drew first blood early doors in the first half as Chris Wood latched onto an inch-perfect through ball from Anthony Elanga to send all of Nottingham into raptures.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men were as defensively astute as ever but came unstuck in the second half as substitute Diogo Jota equalised with his first touch of the game from a corner.
Liverpool continued to attack in the second half but Forest wouldn’t let them pass and rightfully earned themselves a point.
Once again it was the defensive duo of Murillo and Nikola Milenkovic who starred in the heart of the back four, with the Brazilian the one that caught the eye of football fans around the world.

Football fans all make the same claim about Forest star Murillo
Defence is where Forest have been the best this season.
Before Jota’s equaliser, Forest had gone over seven hours without conceding a Premier League goal.
That stat is largely thanks to the excellent performances from Murillo and the 22-year-old unsurprisingly earned his flowers on social media.
One fan said: “Murillo is a World Class CB wtf.
“Murillo and Milenkovic at CB for Forest are absolutely class,” stated a second.
This user added: “I would honestly say that Murillo has been world class this game, very good defender. Fair play.
A fourth commented: “This Murillo performance this is world class.
“Murillo one of the best centre-halves in the world right now,” said a fifth.
Another wrote: “Murillo wow. Won essentially every duel. Absolutely brilliant performance. One of the best defenders in the league this season.”
Murillo’s stats during Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool speak volumes
It was plain and obvious to see just how impressive Murillo was and nothing reflects that more in the stats.
Coming up against Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah and co is never an easy task but the young centre-back made it look a doddle at times.
| Tackles | 4 |
| Interceptions | 2 |
| Blocked shots | 1 |
| Clearances | 18 |
| Duels won | 4/5 |
The 22-year-old won 80 per cent of his ground duels during the game, as well as making four tackles.
It was the away side who looked most likely to score towards the end of the game but Murillo helped play his part with 18 clearances – more than any other player in the game.
