The January signing Evangelos Marinakis is working on to hand Nuno Espirito Santo at Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest are riding high in the Premier League at the moment and play league leaders Liverpool at the City Ground this evening.

Arne Slot has praised Chris Wood in the build-up. His mind games have been on-point with the Liverpool boss constantly harping on about Forest since the 1-0 defeat at Anfield in September.

Tonight’s game promised to be an exciting one. The pundits have made their Forest predictions and the atmosphere inside the City Ground ahead of kick-off promises to be electric.

Behind the scenes, Forest might just be getting a little bit busier too. The Reds are likely to be doing some business in the January window, although outgoing deals might take precedence over any new players arriving.

The one signing Evangelos Marinakis wants to bring to Forest

Nuno Espirito Santo has been keen to focus on the football. As a head coach, that is him working to the remit that the football club have given him and any new signings would be a bonus in his eyes.

Clearly, he’s not too bothered about the squad he has at his disposal. Forest are defying the odds on a regular basis and have currently won seven matches in succession in all competitions.

According to The Athletic, Marinakis is working to bring a striker to the club this month. A number of players have already been linked with the club and that is the signing that is being prioritised.

Forest have Wood as the main option with Taiwo Awoniyi backing him up. Awoniyi, however, has been linked with West Ham and perhaps that’s why Forest are readying other options to try and attack.

Forest want Igor Jesus

The Botafogo player is a wanted man this month. Ipswich and Fulham have been linked with Igor Jesus too and the Brazilian looks set to play in Europe in the very near future.

Arsenal tried to sign Jesus earlier this month. The Gunners have a number of injury problems to contend with but they tried to take him on loan and the reigning Brazilian champions were never going to sanction that deal.

Jesus enjoyed a brilliant season in 2024 and would be a great signing for Forest. Given the club’s South American contingent at the club already, it might be an easy sell to get him to come to the East Midlands this month.

There will be other irons in the fire, however, and as the window gets closer to slamming shut, it does feel likely that Forest might just kick into life in the transfer window.
