Nottingham Forest look certain to be in the market for a new striker before the January transfer window closes.

It did look as though Forest might not actively seek any new signings this month. However, West Ham are keen on Taiwo Awoniyi and if he leaves a replacement will need to be sought.

The Reds have been linked with a number of players this month. Botafogo striker Igor Jesus is a Forest target but it remains to be seen whether or not the South American market will bear any fruit this month.

Evangelos Marinakis is keen to add a striker to the Forest squad, whilst Nuno Espirito Santo will almost certainly be wanting reinforcements especially if Awoniyi leaves the football club before the window closes.

Nottingham Forest seriously considering Yoane Wissa

According to The Telegraph, Forest are going to rival Arsenal for Brentford talisman Wissa before the transfer window closes, with the Reds likely to move if Awoniyi does depart.

The 28-year-old has bagged 12 goals and registered two assists during the 2024/25 campaign and in the summer, he will have just one year to run on his existing contract.

Wissa has stepped up for Brentford since Ivan Toney made the decision to move to Saudi Arabia. He’s been the main striker in Thomas Frank’s team this season and prising him away from the Bees might prove tricky.

The player signed for Brentford in August 2021 for a fee of £8.5 million from French outfit Lorient. His arrival is symbolic of the recruitment model at Brentford, with Wissa scoring 41 times since signing.

What Thomas Frank said about Yoane Wissa

It would be a serious blow to Brentford if Wissa was to leave for a rival. Given their need for a main striker, Arsenal surely hold the aces when it comes to the talisman this month.

Frank told the Premier League back in November that Wissa has been an unbelievable signing and it’s hard to disagree with him given the transfer fee and the impact he’s made.

Forest would surely welcome a player with Wissa’s pedigree in the Premier League and his contract situation might ensure that the fee isn’t as astronomical as it might be.

First, the situation with Awoniyi needs addressing. If he does leave for West Ham, however, replacing him with a player as good as Wissa would be an exciting signing from a Forest point of view.
