The transfer window is edging closer to a finish and naturally, Nottingham Forest are now starting to kick into life.

Yesterday saw two eye-catching rumours involving Forest. Brentford striker Yoane Wissa was linked with Forest – although it was claimed that the first bid has been rejected by the Bees.

Then, later last night Matheus Cunha was linked with Forest. He appears somewhat disgruntled at Wolves and with the player stalling over a new deal, something could come to fruition.

The 25-year-old has scored 10 goals during 2024/25. He’s also been linked with Arsenal and Newcastle this month, with reports claiming Cunha might cost £80 million.

Nottingham Forest ready huge Matheus Cunha bid

This has the potential to be the Morgan Gibbs-White saga all over again. Back in the summer of 2022, Wolves journalists claimed that a deal wasn’t going to happen before ultimately it did.

Now, Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol has made a fresh claim confirming how Forest feel about Cunha and what they intend to do before the transfer window slams shut.

He claimed live on Sky Sports News earlier today that Forest are going to place a bid that would smash the club’s record fee for an incoming transfer.

Cunha’s future is up in the air. A new contract was set to be signed a few weeks ago but with Wolves staring relegation in the face, he’s clearly having second thoughts.

Nottingham Forest record transfer fee

The record fee that Forest have forked out for a player came in the summer when £35 million was sanctioned by Marinakis to bring Elliot Anderson to the club from Newcastle.

Prior to that the £30 million signing of Ibrahim Sangare was the record when he checked in from PSV during the summer of 2023.

Morgan Gibbs-White is next on the list and now, Forest might try and raid Wolves once again to smash their record fee for an incoming transfer before the window closes.

It’s quite remarkable how things have changed with Forest. For many years it was a case of remaining in the Championship, let alone winning promotion from it.

Now, Marinakis is keen to keep putting his hand in his pocket and it would appear that he won’t stop until Forest are competing in European competition once more.
