Nottingham Forest secure ‘last minute’ signing of Manchester City winger

Nottingham Forest are going to be working late into the night as Evangelos Marinakis heads into deal sheet territory on transfer deadline day.

Marinakis had wanted to go for a striker this month. In the end, it looks as though he has had to settle for a winger at the eleventh hour.

Bids for Yoane Wissa came to nothing for Forest in this window. Likewise, there was interest in Matheus Cunha but he won’t be going anywhere until the summer transfer window now.

James Ward-Prowse returned to West Ham from Forest earlier on deadline day. The Reds saw him play just 10 appearances and with Danilo and Ibrahim Sangare now returning to action, he was sixth choice.

Nottingham Forest set to sign PSV talent Joel Ndala

The PSV winger is now set to sign a loan deal with Forest to get deadline day finished with a flourish. Fabrizio Romano has tweeted: “

EXCLUSIVE: Nottingham Forest agree loan deal to sign talented winger Joel Ndala, here we go! Buy option clause included worth £4m plus 20% sell on to Manchester City as loan at PSV has been broken. Marinakis with a last-minute gift for Nuno.

Ndala is a product of the Manchester City youth academy and his time with PSV hasn’t really gone according to plan, with Forest stealing in and landing the youngster to break his current loan.

The 18-year-old has made just 12 appearances for the Dutch club’s second string this season and clearly he feels as though he’s ready to sample senior football for the remainder of the campaign.

Ndala can provide backup to current options

At 18, this does feel like a signing with one eye on the future. He might get some minutes with the first team but whether he’s any better than Jota Silva or Ramon Sosa remains to be seen.

Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi will remain first choice on the flanks. Silva, however, did score his first Premier League goal at the weekend and he does have some quality.

Ndala looks like an intriguing signing. Forest haven’t managed to get any top targets over the line and perhaps this deal just gives Marinakis – and Nuno Espirito Santo – that extra bit of competition for places in the attacking areas of the pitch.

As ever on transfer deadline day, Marinakis has come out with some late drama and it appears as though the floodlights were in fact on for a reason at the City Ground this evening.
