Nottingham Forest were held to a frustrating draw against Exeter during the FA Cup clash at St James’ Park

The Reds held a 2-1 lead following goals from Ramon Sosa and Taiwo Awoniyi but a brace from Josh Magennis saw the League One outfit fight back.

There was concern in the contest, however. There was a long stoppage at the end of full-time after a clash between Grecians keeper Joe Whitworth and Awoniyi.

It saw Awoniyi carried from the field on a stretcher and that saw the fans look deeply concerned about the talisman.

However, some fresh information has now come to light and it might not be quite as bad as first feared.

Injury update emerges on Forest star Taiwo Awoniyi

The BBC have now provided an update on the injury suffered by Awoniyi and it might be good news.

It was posted: “Great news off the field – Taiwo Awoniyi has just walked back to the changing rooms from the medical centre. He looked a bit groggy but was walking unaided.”

Awoniyi is the man who will be tasked with helping Forest out this season when Chris Wood doesn’t make the team or needs a rest and the goal here will have helped his cause.

It’s never nice to see a long stoppage due to an injury and hopefully, Awoniyi can be fit and ready to be in the squad against Fulham on Saturday.

Awoniyi goal could kick-start his season

Awoniyi has been extremely unfortunate at Forest and he will have been buzzing to have got the nod to start during the contest.

He took his goal extremely well and hopefully now he can come out on the other side and start to make an impact in more games this season.

The Nigerian is a real handful when he’s on it and it’s great to hear that he was fit and well to continue walking back to the changing rooms from the medical room.

Awoniyi is a very likeable character and thankfully he looks fit and well enough to travel back with the rest of the squad.
