Nottingham Forest tried hard to sign new players during the January transfer window but to no avail.
With Forest sitting third in the Premier League it proved tricky to sign anyone who would provide an upgrade and nobody ended up coming in to bolster the ranks.
Yoane Wissa was a big target for Forest. However, Brentford – and Thomas Frank – wanted to keep him at the football club and that meant frustration for the Reds.
Matheus Cunha was on the Forest radar too. However, with Wolves’ status as a Premier League hanging in the balance, Cunha decided to pen a new contract with his current club with a £62.5 million release clause to be triggered in the summer.
It would appear that some transfer fees are getting ridiculously inflated ahead of the summer transfer window – with a fine example now coming from the Dortmund campaign ahead of the summer window.

Arsenal and Tottenham battle for Dortmund star Jamie Gittens
According to Bild, the North London rivals will be competing to sign the exciting young winger when the summer transfer window opens.
Forest were linked with Gittens last year. At that point, he chose to stay with Dortmund, however, but a sale could be on the cards in the summer of 2025 when the current campaign draws to a close.
Remarkably, Gittens is now valued at £85 million by the Bundesliga giants. That represents a huge rise, given that last summer it’s thought £50 million might have landed him.
Bizarrely, the valuation has gone up, yet his form has been somewhat erratic. He’s scored 11 goals and registered four assists from 34 appearances but those figures hardly scram of a player worth £85 million.
Forest have to walk away from Gittens deal
The English performer is a burgeoning young talent but no way should Forest even entertain trying to do a deal for the price that is currently being quoted.
At 20-years-old, the player is one of the brightest young talents in Europe but signing Gittens would threaten to break the bank and he wouldn’t represent a worthwhile signing.
Forest earned praise for their shrewd nature to transfers last summer and as a result, the club needs to make sure they continue with that approach ahead of next season.
Gittens would be a decent signing at the right price. However, with sums as stupid as £85 million being floated around, perhaps Forest are better off letting Arsenal and Tottenham do battle on this one.
