Nottingham Forest take on Newcastle on Sunday afternoon with both teams looking to get back to winning ways in the Premier League.

Forest were beaten by Fulham at Craven Cottage as Marco Silva’s men did the league double over the Reds and now it’s important that the team gets back to winning ways.

Newcastle were expected to give Manchester City a good game at the Etihad Stadium but that didn’t transpire. Forest-linked Omar Marmoush scored a hat-trick in a 4-0 win to leave Eddie Howe’s team six points off the Reds.

This weekend’s game promises to be exciting. Newcastle defeated Forest 3-1 at the City Ground earlier in the season and perhaps the Reds will have retribution in their sights.

Referee appointed for Newcastle United vs Nottingham Forest

Forest constantly pay close attention to the match officials given that they’ve been on the wrong end of some shockers in recent years – even if things have improved this season.

It’s been confirmed by the Premier League that Australian official Jarred Gillett will take charge of Saturday’s game with Darren Cann and Mark Scholes as the assistant referees.

In the VAR bunker back at Stockley Park will be Peter Bankes with Ian Hussin acting as the Assistant VAR for the game which will take place at St James’ Park.

Forest will hope that the officials can slip under the radar at the weekend. The first game between these two sides did just that and hopefully this can be another incident-free clash.

Nottingham Forest record when Jarred Gillett referees

Gillett has taken charge of Forest on eight occasions since he swapped the A-League for England with five of those coming in the Premier League.

Intriguingly, the Australian might not be a bad omen for Forest. The Reds have claimed five wins and three losses when he’s been in charge with no red cards coming from the games.

Gilllett is one of the better referees in the Premier League. He has spent some time out of action this season through injury but it would appear he’s now ready to return to action.

The Reds have to focus on what they can do during the game at the weekend and not what the referee might potentially do. If Forest go to St James’ Park with a clear game plan and a clear way of playing then it shouldn’t matter too much what Gillett and his team get up to.
