Nicolas Dominguez’s days are numbered at Nottingham Forest with Serie A replacement eyed

Nottingham Forest are currently fighting things out in the Premier League with European places still up for grabs this season.

The Reds have been in the top four for a little while now but have lost three of their last four – all away from the City Ground – to let the teams around them gain ground on Forest.

Evangelos Marinakis wanted to sign a striker in January. He wasn’t successful in his attempts, however, and now the Reds must go with Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi until the summer.

Clearly, finances were kept tight with extra effort to be placed on bringing in new players should Forest bring European football to the City Ground for the 2025/26 campaign.

Despite having a dozen games still to play during the current campaign, work will be progressing behind the scenes ahead of the summer and some targets will be identified.

Nottingham Forest want Roma midfielder Bryan Cristante

According to AS Roma Live, Cristante is on the shortlist at Forest as a player who is being looked at by the Reds, with former Roma CEO Lina Souloukou now in place on Trentside.

Cristante hasn’t always been considered a regular in the team this season amid some issues with his ankle. However, he has still made 24 appearances, scoring twice and claiming two assists.

Cristante typically operates in the number six role as a central midfielder. With that in mind, his arrival would make a bit of sense as he’d likely bring something to the table that none of the other midfielders can.

The report claims that Nicolas Dominguez could be used as a makeweight. Dominguez vented his frustration on social media after being an unused substitute at Fulham and it seems he would welcome more regular football.

It would be a shame to see Dominguez leave Forest in the summer. However, perhaps he will be moved on to make room for an actual number six with Danilo, Ryan Yates and Elliot Anderson having similar qualities to the Argentine.

Cristante could prove to be a useful addition to the Forest ranks. The Reds would be wise not to pay over the odds, however, given that he’s already 29-years-old with the resale value likely to be limited.

The Roma player looks to be on his way out of the Serie A outfit in the summer and perhaps he would welcome the chance to play Premier League football before the twilight of his career.

Cristante will surely have a number of other options to consider in the summer too. However, having played European football with Roma, he might have the level of experience that Forest are looking for should they qualify for one of the competitions.
