Nottingham Forest are firmly in the mix for Champions League football and it could prove to be an exciting summer.

The Reds will hope to get some sort of European football given that the team are currently sitting in third place in the Premier League table.

Forest tried to sign a striker in January. Much like a host of other clubs, however, Forest found signing players tricky during the mid-season transfer window.

Yoane Wissa was targeted but chose to stay with Brentford, whilst Forest made a play for Wolves star Matheus Cunha before he signed a new contract at Molineux.

It would appear that it won’t be just strikers in the sights of Forest this summer. Already, links to players are starting to do the rounds and perhaps it seems another midfielder is on the radar.

Nottingham Forest discover cost of Davide Frattesi

According to TuttoSport, Forest are rivalling Tottenham for the signing of the Italian midfielder this summer.

Frattesi has been with Inter since 2023 and during the 2024/25 campaign he’s made 32 appearances, scoring four goals for the San Siro-based giants.

The 25-year-old won’t come cheap though. It’s believed that Frattesi will cost the club £40 million in the summer, with Inter wanting to make a profit on their player.

The wages are expected to be a doddle for Forest. Should Champions League football be secured, the Reds will have a considerable bounty for players and that could see this move take centre stage.

Forest have a host of midfielders in their squad and perhaps one or two will be on their way if Frattesi ends up in the Garibaldi next season.

Nicolas Dominguez, Elliot Anderson, Ryan Yates, Ibrahim Sangare and Danilo are all currently in the midfield ranks, with Morgan Gibbs-White also capable of operating there.

Inter face Feyenoord in the Champions League tonight and there is a sense that Frattesi will take part in the contest.

Frattesi has been in the team on a frequent basis during the current campaign and normally occupies the number six role in midfield.

That is the one area on the pitch where Forest have struggled for consistency, with Sangare struggling for a run of games since his £30 million signing from PSV.

Frattesi would quite clearly be a statement signing and if Forest could get this deal over the line it could solve the midfield conundrum once and for all.
