Nottingham Forest scouts watch the ‘best player’ in European league after Pep Guardiola approval

Nottingham Forest will be leaving no stone unturned in their quest to sign new players during the summer transfer window.

The Reds might have a huge bartering chip for potential signings if Champions League football is on the fixture list for the 2025/26 campaign.

Evangelos Marinakis tried for a striker in January. He was left frustrated as moves for Yoane Wissa and Matheus Cunha both fell by the wayside.

January is notoriously a tough month to sign in. Arsenal, for example, were also keen to sign a striker and even a club with the clout that the Gunners have couldn’t get any business done.

The summer will be a different entity altogether though and the Forest links are already starting to emerge.

Morgan Gibbs-White is being linked with a Forest exit but the primary objective in the summer will definitely be to keep the best players and add more quality to the ranks.

Nottingham Forest watch Ardon Jashari in action

Whilst Club Brugge were exiting the Champions League against Aston Villa last night, a host of Premier League clubs were at Villa Park to watch a talented midfielder.

According to Belgian outlet Voetbal Primeur, Forest joined scouts from Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle, Brentford and Brighton in watching Jashiri.

The player is only 22-years-old but he’s already been given the seal of approval from Pep Guardiola who might be keen to bring him to Manchester City too.

Jashari is a defensive midfielder and is enjoying a brilliant maiden campaign with Club Brugge following a summer switch from Swiss outfit FC Luzern.

He’s played 40 times for the Belgian giants during 2024/25, scoring twice and claiming five assists playing typically in the number six role in central midfield.

What Steven Defour has said about Ardon Jashari

Defour spent a short time in the Premier League with Burnley and he’s already lavished praise on Jashari, claiming he’s someone who could adapt to the top-flight.

He said: “He is the best player in our league and perhaps even one of the best of the last 10 years. His combination of energy, aggression and calmness on the ball is unique, he reads the game excellently and is technically strong enough to compete at the highest level.”

The beauty of Forest landing Jashari would be his Champions League experience, especially if the Reds themselves can qualify for the competition.

Brugge were somewhat a surprise package in reaching the last 16 in this year’s competition and if Forest can steal a march on other clubs he might prove a very useful signing indeed.
