Every focus from Nottingham Forest supporters has been on Chris Wood this week after the striker picked up an injury on international duty.
Wood helped New Zealand qualify for the 2026 World Cup with a 3-0 win over New Caledonia but he was withdrawn in the 54th minute of that match after suffering a whack to his hip.
Yesterday, conflicting reports emerged about Wood. Some people had claimed he was going to be out for a while, with others suggesting it might just be a knock and a short-term fix.
Now, during Nuno Espirito Santo’s press conference ahead of Brighton in the FA Cup, he’s been quizzed on his talisman delivering an update on the player’s current condition.

Nottingham Forest fans want Taiwo Awoniyi to take his opportunity
Espirito Santo has confirmed that Wood won’t be available for the trip to the AMEX Stadium for the FA Cup quarter-final this weekend and scan results are eagerly anticipated.
However, Forest supporters appear quite relaxed and plenty feel that Awoniyi can grasp this chance and become the force he’s proved in front of goal previously for the Reds.
Another fan said: “Taiwo Awoniyi, please score a goal for me.”
Another fan was keen to see what Awoniyi can do in the absence of Wood, saying: “We don’t play Spurs until 21st April, for Brighton just play Awoniyi. He has a point to prove.”
Finally, another fan said: “Taiwo if there was ever a time for you to return to the 2022 saviour, it’s right now.”
Awoniyi has golden chance to prove his critics wrong
This hasn’t been the season for Awoniyi, with Wood in fine form and scoring 18 goals has cemented his place in the Forest team.
Now, with the 33-year-old out injured, Awoniyi has a brilliant chance to try and showcase to people what he’s still capable of.
No footballer becomes a bad player overnight and the challenge for Awoniyi is to relax and capitalise on any chances that might come his way at the weekend.
Awoniyi clearly values his profession and the fact he plays for Forest very highly and he will be desperate to get among the goals when the Reds go to Brighton this weekend.
