Ally McCoist now makes U-turn on his Man of the Match award for Nottingham Forest vs Manchester United

Nottingham Forest defeated Manchester United 1-0 at the City Ground last night to further enhance the team’s Champions League credentials.

Ryan Yates hailed Anthony Elanga after his goal sent the home fans into raptures, with Forest shutting up shop to claim a huge victory.

The Reds now have a 10-point cushion to Newcastle who currently occupy sixth, although the Magpies do have two games more to play than Forest.

Nuno Espirito Santo equalled a record held by Brian Clough by claiming a Premier League double over Manchester United and things are looking good.

This was the level of performance that Forest have prided themselves on this season and there were a number of top performers.

Ally McCoist makes U-turn on Man of the Match award

The talk on TalkSPORT this morning turned to the performance of Forest against United last night.

The Reds picked up a big three points and Ally McCoist gave Elanga the Man of the Match accolade on commentary for TNT Sports.

However, in discussion with Dean Saunders, the pair had a lot to say about Yates instead.

Saunders said: “Ryan Yates epitomises everything that Forest have got going for them this season.”

McCoist agreed and claimed: “Do you know something, I actually feel guilty for not giving him Man of the Match. I couldn’t overlook Elanga because of the goal he scored, but you’re right, Ryan Yates was magnificent.”

This was a coming-of-age performance from Yates and he deserves immense credit for showing this level of mettle.

Yates has been questioned by some sections of the fan base in the past and ultimately, some of that critique has felt justified.

However, since losing his place in the team this season, he’s done a capable job whenever he’s been called upon by Espirito Santo.

There is absolutely a place in the Forest squad for Yates and on this showing, he surely keeps his place for the game against Aston Villa on Saturday.
